Do check any special restrictions for dogs
Many beaches in the UK are dog friendly but may have special restrictions over the summer or due to wildlife. In particular, it is worth checking if dogs are allowed off lead on the beach, whether there are specific zones that dog should stick to and if there are any areas to avoid due to wildlife – for example there are a couple of beaches on our list that have nesting birds or seals at certain times of year!
Do check the tide times
Generally low tide means that more of the beach is exposed with plenty of space for zoomies but if you are looking to swim you may prefer a different time of the day. Check out the tide times online to make sure you can make the most of your visit.
Don’t drink the sea water!
The first time at the beach many dogs might try to drink the sea water, often resulting in vomiting, perhaps in the car on the way home! Do your best to discourage this, bring water (for you and the dog!) and don’t forget some of their regular treats or snacks for rewards when they get it right.
Don’t forget your poo bags!
Keeping our beautiful beaches clean is important – make sure you dispose of any litter responsibly.
